Roses are red, violets are blue, but Rep. Kevin Priola loves him some tulips
Diposting oleh asoy di 17.02Most husbands will send their wives flowers on Valentine’s Day, but a flower-grower turned state lawmaker knew to send his a week early.
Rep. Kevin Priola’s family operated a cut-flower greenhouse in Adams County for almost 40 years.
His grandfather, father and uncle, who started the business, grew carnations originally, and then moved into cold-weather crops, such as tulips, Asiatic lilies and snapdragons. Valentine’s Day was the busiest holiday of the year for Priolas, followed by Mothers’ Day. That why’s the Henderson Republican knew to send flowers a week early.
“They’re cheaper and they’re fresher,” he said, adding he sent his wife his favorite, tulips.
But you can be sure most lovers will wait for Valentine’s Day, meaning the state Capitol on Monday will be filled with candy, flowers and lawmakers itching to get out early because they have dinner reservations for somewhere special.
